Question Sub-Frame Connectors and Leaf Spring Bushings

I am about to install a pair of subframe connectors on my 65. It looks like there isn't enough space for it to fit at the leaf spring eye bushing.

Has anyone else had to do anything about clearance issues with the leaf spring bushing?

It also looks like it will be difficult to get the leaf spring eye bolt out with the mufflers installed.

I would greatly appreciate any tips to help with this install.

These are the bolt on type. I do plan on having them welded sometime soon.

The connectors (Mustangs Unlimited "basic setup") my son used fit well, and his NOT STOCK exhaust was not in the way.

The bolts that go through the leaf springs can and often do get way stuck.

Do yourself a favor and PLAN on replacing the bolts before you start the project (buy the bolts) and have a sawsall and quite a few blades handy.

Our bolts popped right out no problem, but I think these are the exception, the rule is a PITA....

If you are blocking the front leaf spring bushing, you have the connectors too far back. Slide them forward. If these are the bolt on type that use the front leaf spring bolt as the mount, return them! Bolt on subframe connectors are worthless and if you weld them on, you will always have a problem with the front leaf spring mount when ever you have to remove the bolt. Just get the correct weld on connectors and be done with it.

I just Finished putting on my Heidts bolt in subframe connectors and it all went pretty easy. i put my 1966 Fastback on 4 gorilla ramps and only took a couple of hours. front leaf spring bolt was easy. i did notice a difference in the ride right away.

They must mount forward of the spring attach point.

Let me clarify. Bolt on connectors always feel good when first installed. However, the chassis is continually flexing and they always loosen up over time. It is well worth it to have them welded on if your chassis needs the extra rigidity.
