Default 8" to 9" rearend

I found a 9" rearend to rebuild, ordered a true trac locker, 3.89 gears, to go along with the AOD and 5.0, I have already put in.
what do you think about this gear set up?
and will I have to cut down the Drive shaft again?

youll just have to measure the 2 different rears but i think you should be ok. Im running a 5.0, aod, 9'' detriot locker, and 4.11's. I love the setup and the od on the aod is great. get a wratchet shifter makes the aod a lot of fun.

If you're looking for opinions, I'm thinking you'd be a bit happier with 3:50-ish gears, especially if you have smaller diameter tires. I'm not positive about the driveshaft length, but I'd venture to guess that you're going to have to.

Got it back together, the 3.89 True lock, 9" AOD, not the outcome I was hoping for should of went with the 4.11

If you have gone from an 8" to a 9", the shaft will have to be shortened, assuming it was a proper length for the 8". The 9" is larger, so the front sticks out more, so the drive shaft has to be shorter.

I went with the 4.11's and am very happy. I find gears to be like a girl getting implants, they always wish they had gone bigger!
