Broke the shifter!!

Broke the shifter!!
Well, it actually fell apart...the stock shifter on my TKO 600 that is. Not a major deal since I was swapping the Tri Ax on anyway. But when I got the old on off that had gotten kinda sloppy, I found that 2 of the bolts holding it together had come out and the other 2 were loose, so the shifter body was moving around everywhere as I tried to shift. Fortunately the part of the trans where the shifter bolts on is mostly isolated from the gearbox per se, so the bolts didn't go any farther than the bottom of the channel for the shifter receiver.
The new Tri Ax is a way better shifter, and even though the TKO's have positive stops, they only prevent the forks from bending, but not the rails. The Tri Ax has stops to help protect the rails also, which is a nice bit of added piece of mind. It has a way more positive feel to it though.
Get a few other things squared away and the suspension is next.

Hm, I'll keep that in mind.
Let me know how the Tri-Ax feels on the road. I just picked one up for suuuper cheap for my '90 GT project, but I won't be able to drive it on the road for at least a month. I was originally looking for a used Pro 5.0, because I've driven my roommate's '97 T/A WS6 with one and really liked it, but I couldn't pass up a new Tri-Ax for $100.

Shifting it around just sitting in the driveway without it running, it seemed really nice. Very positive feel from gear to gear, quick, crisp and precise. It seems like a very controlled and easy to use shifter. And the shifter body is 1 piece, not 2 like the stock TKO unit, so not bolts to rattle loose and fall inside the trans.

Bolts on just like the shifter that comes with it. Of course, it's a total pain to get to in a classic stang. You either have to cut the crap out of the tunnel, or I dropped the back end of the trans down to be able to get to it(barely). It's really best done with the trans out of the car.
And I'm figuring that the stock shifter maybe wasn't tightened properly when it was assembled and/or vibration from the car.

So, got it all back together and drive it. Very nice shifter, clean crisp shifts without much movement and no slop.
Course, now the car vibrates a tad more with the addition of a poly trans mount, but a lot of it is still tuning bugs I need to work out of the carb.
