Default gt-40p headers on 66

What shorty and long tube headers will work on a 66 mustang with the gt-40p heads. Does anyone know if the explorer exhuast manfold would work.

No, it won't. The only headers I'm aware of that are actually designed for P heads are made by Doug Thorley and Ford Powertrain (FPA). They're very expensive, although very high quality.

FPA describes their Tri-Y as 65-70 289-302 W/ GTP & Dart Heads.

Sorry to drag up an older thread. My friend has a late model 302 with GT40P heads in his 65 fastback and is looking for some headers that will work. Since he is going to be using a MD clutch cable, shorties are what he is probably going with. The budget for headers is only about 250 dollars. Are there any shorties out there that fit the bill?

$250? That's going to be a problem. He's got the exact same problem as the OP, a smallblock with P heads.

Why the cable clutch?

Thats what he already has. I think he did it for the same reason I did, because of not knowing about being able to adapt the Z bar.
