Thumbs up 1966 Mustang leaf spring lift!

So, I want to start dragging my car a bit, and I have no idea how to lift the rear end. I have brand new five leaf mid eye springs. I want to lift it about four inches or so, is there an easy way to do it?

Thanks!

4"..that's a LOT. Why would you want that much? A tire that tall would be too wide to clear the inner wheel wells.

Why would you want to lift it? For drag racing, you want weight transfer to the rear. The more you lift the rear, the less weight you have on the rear tires for traction.

Take the springs to a spring shop and have them re-arched.

Do any of the companies offer a different leaf spring that is a bit taller than stock?

I don't really care much for re-arching. They never seem stay at the same ride height. They sag too quickly.

I have longer shackles to raise the rear of mine about an inch or so.

Raising the rear on a leaf spring car by 4" or more is dangerous for driving on the street and negatively impacts performance on the strip. Of course, that's not your question, but it is why you are having a hard time getting and answer.

As so many of my old cars had previous owners that used air shocks.
Air them up as much as you can its really cool and neat when they push through the mounting hole and wind up inside the trunk area.

Several companies make lift springs. The factory ride height is already tall, so a 1" lift spring should be all anyone needs.

Shackles are horrible. They completely screw up the pinion angle.

This suspension combo easily supports low 12s with the addition of traction bars of some sort (like under riders) and drag radials that fit under the fenders of the car...if you have a motor with enough horsepower to run 12s anyway:

Battery relocated to rear of car.
Tremec T-5 5-speed transmission.
Moser 9-Inch rear end, extreme axles w/ star flange and gun drilling.
Powertrax locking differential.
3.50 : 1 ring and pinion ratio.
1" front sway bar, brand new upper and lower control arms, with upper and lower camber adjustment.
Koni Classic Red shocks, front and rear.
#620 front coil springs, 5-Leaf mid-eye rear leaf springs.
To put it another way I don't think the suspension you have on the car right now is a limiting factor preventing you from having good consistent times with your car. I suspect you think you need to lift it 4 inches because you want to slap some super wide tires on it because you think you need them to drag race...you don't. I've run 11.5 on 5 leaf mid eyes and 275 40 17 drag radials.
