Default Drip rail repair help

Hello ol' wise ones,

Here is a picture of a problem area on my drip rail. The rest of the rail is in pretty good shape.

I am unsure how to proceed with a repair in this area. What would be the best repair option here?

Cut out the bad and weld in a new piece. I don't see what else you would do other than to shave the drip rails completely which would be more work than patching that little area. Mine were not rusted at all but I shave them anyway just because I prefer the looks without them.

You are in Oregon I would get a hold of the mustang yard out of albany to get what you need for a repair.
