quick spring question
hey yall im workin on my 68 stang and have a quick question about yalls opinions on springs, this will be a street/strip car, i basically want the car to be one that i can drive to the strip, make some passes and then drive it home, it will have to handle well enough to drive on the street but im more focused on gettin good weight transfer and launchin hard then being able to take corners good and that stuff, what springs would yall recomend? ive heard alot of people using 620 springs and cuttin some off and using a 4 leaf mid eye or standard eye pack, but would this be good for weight transfer? im pretty new to the strip scene so any options yall could present for me would be greatly appreciated, also what do yall think of these rebuild kits? i think my uca are pretty solid but would it greatly benefit me to upgrade to the 2nd kit with new uca?

For a drag suspension, you should run something like the stock springs. A 620 or even 540 spring is going to be too stiff to provide any decent weight transfer. The stock springs are spongy and will let the front end lift up quite a bit during launch.
For the rears, GT 4 leaf springs with traction bars will be fine.

thanks for yalls help really appreciate it, the thing about the stock springs is that the 68 was orginally a 6cyl car, will these springs still work and allow good weight transfer with the extra weight of the 302?
so for rear springs from what yall have said im thinking one of these 2, the grab a trak 4.5 mid eye leaf set

or the grab a trak 4 leaf mid eye set

sorry for all the questions just trying to learn how this works, what would be the pros vs cons for each of those springs
EDIT: would these front springs work well, they are stock style replacement coils

The I6 coils will probably provide the best weight transfer, but they'll be really, really spongy on the road. Remove the sway bar for strip use only; running on the road without a sway bar makes for extreme body roll.
I recommend GT 4 leaf springs for best weight transfer. More than that will impede weight transfer to the rear. The Traction Masters will keep the tires planted.

im ok with being spongy on the road, this wont be a dd vehicle i have my truck for that, i want to be able to drive on the road everyonce and a while just to cruise around and enjoy my car but im much more worried about weight transfer than street characteristics, should i reuse my stock front coils that i currently have then? theyre the original 6cyl coils, or should i just pick up a new set of the 6cyl coils? and so i should just get the grab a trak 4 leaf pack then, thanks for all yalls help, so im lookin at kyb gr2 shocks, gt 4 leaf mid eye leaf pack, and either my stock sixxer coils or new replacement sixxer coils, and some traction bars, im guessing just something along the line of the under axle bar like the competition traction bars or the lakewoods would work well? or should i get the tubular shelby stlye traction bar like these?

any thoughts on the original sixxer springs verse just new ones, i think the originals woul dhave the best weight transfer but may be unsafe on the road, maybe some new sixxer springs would be better what yall think, also which traction bars woul dyall recoment, ive heard great things about the caltracs system, but for the money i think i would be better off gettin these

or maybe even these

of course if i got the 2nd ones i should just get the caltracs for the price

The newer coils will have a little more spring to them. I'd get a new set.
Get a set of Traction Master traction bars and you'll be fine. Avoid the bolt-on style; they suck.
I'd also recommend something besides GR2 shocks. You might look into some Lakewood drag shocks.

ok thanks, ill check out the lakewood shocks, i figured the extra spring from new sixxer coils would be best, i need this car to still be safe to drive on the street ya know, will those lakewood drag shocks be too aggresive to be safe on the street
