Default on my 66 the bumper guards stick off the car about 1/4 inch

i was putting the bumper guards back on and i was not the one who took it apart but the bumper guards do not sit flush with the valance. It looks like the top bolt goes behind the bumper and the bottom is down low on the valance. the bolt for the bottom goes throught the valance into the guard but the guard has a bracket that does not let it sit flush its has a bracket with a speed clip or one of those bent u shape clip with the nut built it..it looks like crap i think. whats wrong and does anyone have a pic. this is on the back bumper

that makes them look silly. do the aftermarket ones sit flush i hate seeing that gap. you can see some of the speed nut it is so far out.

Correct. If they fit flush against the valance the vibration and rubbing would probably cause paint damage and rust. Those valances move around some when you are driving, especially at highway speed.

i got some Scott Drake after market ones and they werent close enough for me either. so i took out my wonderful dremmel and opened up the bracket a little more and used a skinnier bolt and got it to where i wanted it.
