Help Me decide!! PLZ!!
first of i have a 68 mustang with 5.0 engine and t5 tranny with front disc brakes. the car was originally an I6 which means the rear i have is not good and has to go.. i was pretty much set to go the explorer route which is an 8.8 rear but has disc brakes and gears arent bad but i found the other option and im stuck on what to do. im on a budget and have no welding experience im a rookie.. forgive me i know..
i found a 96 explorer that has an 8.8 rear with 3.55 that has disc brakes and is going for 300. i would have to have some welding done to be able to bolt on my car.
or
i recently found a 9inch with 28 spline not limited slip with a 3.0 gears i think its like 60" drum face to drum face. it was 150. online i found a disc brake kit that was from an explorer that was going for 169. disc bake kit fits 9inch.
should i go for it?
dont know where the diff came from and it sounds too good to be true. so im a little skeptical..
whats ur opinion??

I went the 9 inch route with a Versailles rear end.
What 9 inch is it that you found? If its not out of a Versailles or Granada or a 50s Ford then it is probably not the right size.
On the 9 inch measure the spring perches center to center and compare to yours.
Check out this thread for some links to info on Versailles and other 9 inch rear ends.

I have heard that the Explorer setup is a good way to go. I have not done that though. It also give you the 355 gears which is a good combination with a T5. Maybe someone that has done the Explorer swap will chime in.
