Default Hopefully the cause of my transmission problems

Well I had been having problems with my transmission as its stuck in park and won't shift. Well I had a couple people say it was the linkage but I realized the problem wasn't external. So I took the pan and filter off and found that this bolt on the inside was loose so I tightened it down a little. But can someone tell me what this bolt does and if it is the cause of the trans problems or not.

When I was under the car this was all I could find that looked out of place or loose so I really hope this is the problem and its nothing major.

If the tranny will shift now that is likely your problem!!

Way to tackle the issue!

Thanks well I got under there today tightened it down and now the transmission works fine shifts perfect and everything. But while taking the pan off yesterday I threw away the gasket and went and bought a new one today but when pouring the trans fluid in it instantly started leaking. The bolts were on pretty good but not too tight. I was also told to use silicone on the gasket woudl that help?

Well one of the workers at Dallas Mustang that know us pretty well told us that copper silicone would work. So we went to Autozone and got some silicone in a copper tube. But does anyone know where to get a cork gasket because the one I got isnt as thick as the original cork gasket.
