I am having prblems starting my mustang, this is what is happening, a couple of days ago, i started it up, but only run it for about 5 minutes, now that i am trying to take it to me home, away from my parents home, i cannot start it, i have fuel at the carburator, I chk the plugs i do have spark, but plugs are very black, timming is ok sice i have not moved it, i was able to get it running about a year i go when i left. before this, the gas tank was empty and drained a battery trying to start it. if any one have some ideas, great.

The black plugs are the problem. The soot on them is a carbon short that keeps it from firing. The reason for the fouling is likely due to starting it for a few seconds with the choke on and shutting it off before the plugs get hot enough to burn it off. The proper fix is to replace the plugs and check you carb settings. Sometimes, and I mean rarely, you can pull the coil wire away from the coil while cranking the engine. By making a gap between the coil and the coil wire of about 1/8-1/2 inch or so, you increase voltage and sometimes that increase is seen by the plugs as a stronger arc to get it running. It defies electrical theory, but has started many cars. Oh, this can light YOU up as well. Use caution or find a "friend" to help.
