Default 15 inch wheels, how wide can I go?

I have been looking at wheels for my car, as the style steels are starting to get old. I was originally thinking about 14" wheels so I could use my existing tires. I am now kind of thinking about 15" instead. I dont want to go too large, because I dont like that look. What I am wondering, is how wide a wheel/tire can I go before I start to have issues with rubbing etc. What is a good tire size for the wheel? Any experiences you guys have had would be great. Thanks

I don't know what year your car is.

I have 215 60 15 front and 235 60 15 rear on my 65. I also have Magnum 500 wheels. The front tire is very close to the upper A arm.

I have 15x7s on my 67 with a 4" backspacing. Run a 205/65R15 on the front and 215/65R15 on the rear.

I should have specified. It is a 66. I would like to keep the same size on all 4. Would the car look good with the 15x7 and the tires recommended for it? Or would it look too wide or full? Anyone have experience with this size? Thanks.

My point was I don't think that 225 will actually clear in the front with stock backspacing. Maybe it will. If your car doesn't have power steering then I would probably go with 215. The 225 will be harder to steer.

It will look good with 15x7 and 215 60 15 or 225 60 15.

Here is mine with 215 60 15 on the front with 15x7 wheels. The front also has 1 inch lowering springs on it, so the front is a bit lower than stock.

They look nice! When you see it in person, is there a big difference between the 14 and 15? I would think so.

Yeah the 14s just look too small.

FWIW, on my 69, 15-225s would rub the front fender opening if I back out and turn on an incline (driveway). I have 215s in front, and 245s in back (an 8½" tire width), which just make it on stock suspension).

Any wider than 215s in front make parallel parking a bit more difficult, and I think puts a bit more strain on a stock power steering pump. Fat front tires aren't worth it. 195, 205 or 215 is the way to go.
