Default Turn signal switch

Hi, is there some trick to getting the turn signal switch mechanism out of the steering column? I remove the screws I see on the front (with the steering wheel removed). It appears loose, but won't come out. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

John

How I got mine out was I put a flathead under it and pried it out... During it Tons of sparks happened then I unpugged the battery... BUT I would not recommend doing that as there's a thin metal thing under that is electrified somehow... BUT.. thinking about it now, probably screw the three bolts back in and leave them out abit to stick a crowbar under them and pry them out *Maybe put a washer under them for more surface area for the crowbar to touch* BUT... I think there is an actual tool called a Steeringwheel PULLER that you can buy at like a autoparts store... Hope this helps any

*Forgot to add. Don't do the screwdriver thing because I messed up the edges of the thin metal thing doing it that way*

Yes, always disconnect the battery first.

Have you disconnected the wiring and removed the pin block from the wires?

Also, you can get a pin connector/extractor tool and it's quick and painless to change that switch. You can get one at Radio Shack for $4-$5.

If you just want to change the cam (because the signal doesn't cancel), you don't need to remove the switch.

Default 73 coupe by the way

Sorry, I forgot what year I had.

Actually, the switch isn't making contact, so no blinky light unless I pull on the turn signal handle. Not sure if just replacing the cam will fix this problem, as someone pushed the car recently, and used the turn signal as a hand hold, result, the handle broke forward a little and now the signal is intermittent at best. Hazards work, so it must be the switch.

I just had the steering wheel off the 71 today (to replace the ignition), if I didn't put it back on I would go out and take a look for you! the pictures I took don't show me much good luck

EDIT: well maybe I can help a little, this article is for a 65 but the switches should be similar, so maybe it will give you some ideas!
