Default What is this? 71 mach electrical

OK so what the heck is this? almost every time the door slams or the glove box is shut this electrical thing on the right goes off and buzzes like crazy. The only thing I've found that shuts it off is pushing the interior light button that the door hits. Also what is the electrical stuff next to it as well?

Oh yeah if it wasn't understood, it's right above the glove box hooked up to the plate seen in the picture. it's really annoying so I just unplugged it for now. And the car is my dad's 71 Mach 1

Default 73 mustang is simular

I mapped out the panel on my 73 mustang. Same panel, same place on the car, but with lots more stuff on it. So, looking at the wire colors it appears to me that the item on the right that you disconnected is the buzzer.

The buzzer buzzes if you open the driver door with a key in the ignition. It's supposed to keep you from locking yourself out of the car. So, perhaps the key sense contacts are shot if it goes off with no key in the ignition. If it only sounds when the key is in the ignition and the door is open, that's ok, it is supposed to do that.

The item to the left is the Stop light relay. Disconnect that and you will no longer have brake lights.

Enjoy!

thanks that helps, I think something must be off with that circuit then though. I could have the drivers door shut but if I shut the passenger side door too hard the buzzer starts buzzing. It's also happened when I've slammed the glove box shut. If I get bored I might try to trace down the problem, but my dad and I are getting it prepped to sell it so I won't be too worried about it.

My first thought was that it was part of some old alarm system or something, but I guess thats not the case. I'll just leave it unplugged for now so it doesn't drive me crazy! Thanks!

Default Buzzer?

Hmm, it could be the door switch. Just pop out the door switch and disconnect it to check. If the problem goes away, get a new switch.

Otherwise it may actually be the buzzer. I remember that mine acted weird when I was putting it back in. Buzzed when it should not have. I don't know how I fixed it. Just whacked it a few times I think.
