I just picked up my car from the engine builder on Friday, here it is with the engine specs in the title. It does have the XE 274 cam.

Actually seemed pretty subdued. That must be the magnaflow mufflers :-)

Sounds like I'll have to do some research and find out what sort of combinations go well with eachother.

Thanks.

I thought the cam would make the car more radical as well but I am very happy with it, especially when revved. Perhaps it is the mufflers but I always ran Magnaflows on my 99 and 03 Cobras and thought they sounded great.

It did have an Edelbrock 2172 cam which was 0-5500 rpm but it flattened a lobe during break in.

The car is running an AOD, TCI valve body, 2400 stall and a rebuilt traction loc 4.11 rear end.

how'd it manage to flatten a lobe?

it seems like it would take quite a bit of force to distort the shape of the cam itself

If I can ever get my dad to catch the mod bug I'll get him to spend the dough on the cam and stuff, he talks about having it rebuilt soon. Hopefully not to totally stock specs under the hood.

Headers back won't be an issue though, hell, I'd pay for that.

It might have been a number of factors, I bought the tranny and engine off of craigs list (sacremento) so regarless that the lobe flattened the engine was advertised right. Over at the 335forum they members have been posting a few flattened lobes at the same time I was so perhaps it is the oil which is funny considering mustang monthly just ran an article about zinc content. I put the motor and tranny in, it fired up right away so maybe it was the timing to cause it to run hot or not enough zinc in the oil, after the motor was pulled and tore apart the local (re)builder said the motor was way to 'tight'. The car ran during break in and never after that which sucked since I put so much work into the car. I am just glad it runs great now.

Is the XE274 considered a small cam? I read on another forum where it was so perhaps that is why it does not have that significant lope?
