6's are more than v8's

why?

289s are much more common and parts are more readily available and competitively priced.

few people carry 200 parts, and price accordingly.

Thank you guys, and sorry BA Mustang, I didn't know that PO meant previous owner.

I guess I'll have to compare rebuild kit prices for 289s and 200s to see if they really do cost more. Though it may cost more just for machinists to get the parts, not if I get them myself. Does anyone recommend this?

Usually you take it to the shop to have it all cleaned and bored, honed, ground, and polished.... and magnafluxed if you want.

for a v8 prices are about...

Hot Tank------55
MagnaFlux----80
Bore----------135
Hone---------15
Grind Crank---120
Polish Crank---40
Cam Bearings--35
Press Pistons--48
Freeze Plugs--8

that was for my 289....
6 will be about the same.

This will tell you what oversizes you need....

buy the kit,
take it to the machine shop
they will;
Press in pistons to rods
Install cam bearings

and if the machine shop is assembling.. finish the job other wise take all that jazz to the motor builder.

You mean personally finish it otherwise take it to a motor builder? The machinist I know is over 60 years old so I am sure he is very experienced with assembling it together.

Meh I guess I'll see how it goes and if my dad actually ends up going with the rebuild.
