Rim sizing for a 67

Rim sizing for a 67
I'm looking to get some used 17" cragers from a guy who had them on his 70. The rears are 9" wide with 5.5" backspacing. The fronts are 8" wide with 4.5" backspacing. I test fitted them on my car and they seemed alright but this is without rubber. On dodgestangs wheel chart it says that they should fit with 275's on the rear and 245's on the front, stock leafs and 4 wheels drums, which I have. How accurate is this?
The previous owner had 285's on the rear and 255's on the front. He recommended that I go with 245's all around for clearance.
Will these fit my 67 coupe with stock suspension, front and rear, and drums all around??
(Yes, I'm planning on changing the suspension and brakes. Looking into a package from opentrackerracing and steve's cobra conversion)

from dodgestang.com
According to dodgestangs site, it can be done. According to the link above it can't. Which one is correct??
BA Mustang, can you pm me with who it is and what site they are on.
Is there anyone here running a 9 inch rim on the rear??

the name of the game is backspacing. if you get it right you could go 245+ all around. in my haste, i unfortunately chose a slightly incorrect backspacing wheel on my 17x8s and was forced to use 225s in front, but im not gonna complain yet. the stance is as wide as it possibly could be (i.e. flush with the inside of the flares), im just praying i wont rub when i get around to dropping the nose.

Dodgestang's chart is compiled from what people run on their car. It takes into account many suspension variables which is why there is so much data. Both charts are 'correct' in so far as one has a lot more information on it requiring the reader to invest a little time understanding it, while the other is a boiled down, uber safe, approach at tire and wheels. If you are looking to maximize the rubber on the road, the dodgestang chart will help you more.
9 and 9.5 inch rims in the rear are an easy fit for the 67/70 cars as well as 275s on them. You just need the right backspacing on the wheel.
Please do your suspension and brakes first because depending on the components you chose you can effect wheel fitment.
