Default MSD 6A Ignition

The guy who is working on my head right now told me buying an MSD 6A ignition would extremely help - if not solve - the problem of unleaded gasoline in such an old car. He says it will bring the car to the year 2000.

Anyone have one of these in their classic?

How hard is it to install and will it just bolt right in so I don't have to replace other ignition components?

This guy was really set that this would make a whole lot of difference with my car if I just threw it on there and bumped the plug gap up to .045

It'll help efficiency, emissions, and throttle response a little, but it's not going to give you 20hp or anything.

It doesn't do anything to keep your exhaust valves from burying themselves in non-hardened valve seats, but that's not really going to be a big problem in a street driven Mustang.

I'm actually getting hardened seats installed and no I am not looking for horsepower gains

Just looking for engine longevity

Doesn't hurt, but not required.

If you switch to a pertronix system with elec point and coil, would it still be worth while to have an ignition box or does the pertronix emliminate the need for one?

They do different things, but if you want a box, you don't need the Pertronix.

I would just do the Pertronix Ignitor and be done with it.
