Default A/C not working

My ac is not working. The clutch wont kick in. There is a single wire you can somewhat see in picture. When switch is turned on I get power to the wire but no clutch. Ths connects to a small block mounted to the top of casing. I am thinking this is a fuse. Can any one confirm if that is correct. I believe gm also used this and they were called a thermal ?. I can not find it my haynes manual or a parts catalog. there is a ford part # c8sa29797 cast on the top but had no luck finding that anywhere either. Auto Zone thought I was crazy and had no Idea what I was talking about if it werent a 30 minute drive I would take it in a shove it somewhere. I dont mind no air but road trip for the long weekend and mama says no air no mustang. Thansk in advance.

If you have power going to it but the clutch still won't engage, I would tend to think the clutch is at fault.

I'm not expert, so don't run out and buy a new clutch because of my post, but logic tells me that's a good place to start.

The small black box between the clutch/pulley and the compressor is the commutator brushes. If these do not touch the ring on the back of the clutch, there will be no power to the clutch, and it will not engage. This either needs adjustment, or replacement, or the clutch is burned out. Any Mustang dealer, Glazier's, etc., should have these now that you know what to ask for. A little cleaning or adjustment may put the one you have back in action, too.

Do you have freon in the system? I know on the newer cars the clutch will not engage if the freon gets below a certain level. Not sure if it holds true for our older Mustangs.
