Default Car Trouble, Help?

I have a 1966 Mustang, strait six.

When i turn the key the car starts right up, in N i can rev the engine and there is no problem. Once i put the car in gear ( D or R) it is fine, but the second i try to give it gas to go the engine just dies....

What Wrong?

Could be many things. Can you get it to go if you press the gas slowly?
