Default 289 cooling system coversion

has a 289 cooling system ever been converted over to a 5.0l/302 style? i have so many 5.0l parts around my garage and was wondering if it would work.. i have the radiator/water pump/ford torus electrics fan/tranny cooler.. think that's all i need for the conversion.

rad (assuming its original) will fit just fine. tho i would upgrade. 302 and 289 are basically the same engine for the most part. the 289 pump should bolt right up. tranny cooler might not hook up. depends on the tranny. ive always heard different things on this as far as sizes on c-5 and c-6's (again assuming this is what your working with). no idea about the taurus electronics tho.

need more info. what the years these 5.0's are from etc

I doubt the radiator will work. Completely different design. There are plenty of aftermarket aluminum radiators out there if you want to go that route.

The fan assembly, however, is one of the best OE fans you can get. If you can rig that up to whatever radiator you have and set up a way to turn the two fan motors on independently, you'll never overheat in traffic.

well i have a 289 66 mustang that i have been restoring.. but i mostly work on 5.0l mustangs.. so i have so many parts that people don't want off the 5.0's, especially radiators and water pumps. so just trying to modernize the 66 rustangs cooling system with a setup off a 1990 5.0l..i mocked it up so far and looks like it will work.. just need to use the matching 5.0l water pump with the matching radiator for that year.. just need to make some custom bends in the cooling hoses and i should be fine.. using a external tranny cooler also. after its done i will post pics, so far it looks pretty sweet with the electric fans
