Default Auto Trans Cooling Question

Is it possible to run the fluid just through a large external cooler without passing through the radiator.
I am trying to keep my temp from creeping up on long drives on 95+ degree days.
I have a external engine oil cooler that helped out quite a bit already, just thought that this might help more.

It might be useful to find out why it's running hot. There are way too many easy fixes to prevent this. If you have AC, make sure the heater shutoff valve is working. If not, a manual valve in the heater hose would probably be at least as effective, and ne a lot cheaper and easier to install. You see, any coolant that goes to the heater when you aren't using never gets to the radiator, and can't cool the engine. There are other things, too, but being the cheapest this is a good place to start.
