Which wheel/size

Which wheel/size
I am looking to pick up a set of either vintage 40, vintage 45, or torq thrust d's this week. I am not sure if I want to go 16x8 or 17x8. Help me figure out which wheel and which size! They will be going on a blue 66 coupe. and I am thinking about lowering the car 1" from stock height.

I am a huge fan of the torq thrust d's. As far as the 16" or 17", I think it would depend on the look you are going for. If you are going for more of a restomod look, go with the 17's, if not I would go for the 16's. Also make sure you have the right backspacing so the tires do not rub. the thread "big o' tires" under the classic mustangs section has a list of what size rims and the backspacing required. Oh and personally I think that the torq thrus d's look better in larger rim sizes like 17's or 18's. If you would do 16's or 15's go with the vintage rims. That's my opinion.

thats a great chart. I knew there was some fitment issues with the 16s. I am going for the restomod look but still well streetable. And since I am considering lowering it 1in I am starting to lean towards the 16". Probably 16x7 all around since 16x8 have fitment issues in the front. I like the stance below.

The chart linked by our friend at the mustang barn is a decent enough guide but really only conveys what I would consider 'safe' combinations for any mustang. If you are looking to maximize rubber on the road than I would recommend perhaps parusing the 'ole dodgestang chart which details out wheel/tire combos and defines little things that affect fitment like suspension choices. I know I run 245 40 17 in the front of my 65 mustang, something 95% of people say don't fit...and I don't even have my fenders rolled.
With 16x8 wheels you can't go past 4.5 backspacing on the front.
With 17x8 wheels you can increase backspacing to 4.75 which will help you fit the tire/wheels better if you want to run a wider tire (like 225+ in the front). You can then increase - camber to help ease a wider tire in (like my 245) which will improve cornering but will decrease overall tire life when you get to the -2.5 I run. But since I'm lucky if I do 3-4k a year...my tires are 4 yrs old now and have no signs of wear yet

16x8 work on the front, you just can't go over 4.5 inch backspacing which limits the width of the front tire a bit.
