Exclamation timing chain cover

I got a mess of a 67 mustang but its got what i believe to be a 302, not sure from what, but the timing chain cover has a pin on the drivers side and the harmonic balancer 0 TDC is on the passenger side so I think i need a different harmonic balancer but i read something about a bolt on pointer, but why would it have a pin on the timing chain cover if i needed a bolt on pointer? not sure what i need.
its gotta be either wrong cover or the wrong balancer or the lack of bolt on pointer?

the block number is 1974

it might be your balancer that is bad the rubber will go bad and the outer ring will slip

yea i thought about that so i got a new one for a 1974 maverick cause the motor is a 74 but 0 is still on passenger side, does anyone know what model and year had a 302 drivers side metal point timeing chain cover and 0 degrees on the drivers side of the balancer. just want to buy one and have it work

The earlier timing chain covers had the cast in pointers. I believe it was changed over late 67 or early 68. They replaced the cast pointer with the bolt on pointer. However, I believe the two are interchangeable and both pointers are on the drivers side of the cover. In fact, I replaced teh cast pointer cover on my 67 289 (water damage) with a later cover with the bolt on and the pointer is in the exact location. Sound like you might have the wrong balancer or the ring slipped, as suggested above.

Good luck.

being that it is a 74 block. it may be the later style meant for the drivers side water pump inlet and the timing marks were moved to the passenger side by ford. like my 70 302 came with stock.
