67 Rear End Setup
Anyone have any suggestions on a rear end for a 67 Mustang. I am putting a newer 5.0 EFI motor in the car and dont want to use my I6 rear end. I am very new to this scene so any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: 67 Rear End Setup
this depends on how much money you want to spend and how much power you want to make if your running a stock 5.0 an 8" out of a v8 stang will be plenty strong for the 5.0 now if you want to make more power i would go with the 9" which is way stonger
and if you got the dough then check out the heits rearend kit its f ing awsome but it cost 4 grand

RE: 67 Rear End Setup
The ford 9" rear end is well known in the automotive world has being next to indestructable, it is best to use when you are adding more power, they made them from the late 50's all the way till mid 80's I believe (they came in ford trucks during the later years). Even hardcore Chevy guys admit that the ford 9" rear is the best.

RE: 67 Rear End Setup
I have found many 9" rear ends on ebay and random wrecking yards in town. Now....I know that the offset and leaf spring mounts will be different. Should I just take it to an axle/driveline shop and have it modded to fit right on my mustang? or is there a chart or something that shows what will directly bolt in?

RE: 67 Rear End Setup
You should first determin what gears you want etc, you should speak to an expert, you want it for quarter mile times, or comfortable fwy driving etc, do you need the posi or not? Find all that out than hit ebay and the junk yards, you will need the housing, complete with axles, 3rd member, pumpkin etc....it should directly replace what you currently have.
I run a 3.50 gears in my 67, not stuning for 1/4 mile, but really nice for fwy drving.

RE: 67 Rear End Setup
i am in the same situation as you...i just finished building my 5.0 for my 64.5 and its running about 350 hourse...after very much reading the ford nine inch is the way to go...now im just trying to find where to find one without spending more than 1,500. installation is a peice of cake though..bout an hours worth of work...i you are converting from your I6 as i am make sure you get the right springs, im going with one inch drop springs for a better look from laurel mustang...if you have the same C4 from the I6 run somewhere between a 3.0 to 3.5 gear...i hope i can help cuz i am just as much as a newbie as you but ive done a lot of research on converting from the I6 to the 5.0
