Just an update...

I checked the spot again this morning and found water. So it was just slowly leaking out of the pump gasket. Decided there wasn't going to be a way to fix it besides replacing the gasket.

I had installed the gasket that came with the pump, and obviously it was a very cheaply made one, espcially since it fell apart when I removed it. I am now getting a Fel-Pro pump gasket that will be here tomorrow. Hopefully it will be better quality as most of their gasket materials appear to be.

I've had the same problem for years.. water collecting on the timing chain cover after changing the pump. I remember reading somewhere that the leak could be caused by putting on the water pump bolts in the wrong order. Aren't some longer/shorter than others? Thoughts?

Hmm, never heard about that, but maybe this time I'll try tightening them down in equal increments.

On my 200 six, two bolts are the same length and one is like half their size. It's pretty hard to mix them up. Just make sure you remember to reinstall the alternator tensioning bracket... I broke a bolt off in the block because I forgot the bracket and the bolt bottomed out.

Do you guys put the RTV on both sides of the gasket?
