Default Electric choke placement

I plan to do an electric choke conversion soon and was looking for the best place to get the voltage from. I have been told to run to the coil, ignition, fuse block and other places. How is yours set up and do you mind posting a photo?

the choke needs 12v to operate, and after bypassing your stock ignition resistor wire, you will be getting approximately 12 volts at your coil, making it a suitable place to draw power from. just take the red power wire from the choke to the + side of the coil and you're good to go.

Thanks, just right on top of the coil. Seems better than wiring it through the firewall to the fuse block.

Getting rid of my electric choke and going full manual operation was the best decision I made that year....

yeah thats the main benefit imo of putting it there: convenience. is it the absolute best place to put it? probably not. but it works fine so i dont care. ive heard of people wiring it to their alternator, which also makes sense but being the lazy person that i am, i went coil.

I'm with you on what works. Also is that a curved monte carlo bar in there? Curved for the air cleaner or distributor?

Yeah, I'm intrigued to Gun

at the time it was more of stylistic choice, i just liked the way the curved looked better. but after i put it on, i was looking at it and thought "wow, good thing i didnt get a straight bar, it woulda run right into the dizzy" lol so lucky me

True, I had a straight one in my car and it ran right over the dizzy. I guess luckily I bent it a little putting it in. I had it cut out a couple months ago and I was going to go with a curved one when I buy another.

I though you would never ask

1) In the winter I had to dial in more choke to get good idle
Then dick with occasionally
2) In the summer i had to dial out some choke to get good idle
Then dick with occasionally
3) Once it warmed up I have to stomp on the gas to get out of choke position
4) Choke is set longer than it needs to be as I find a good place to stomp on the gas

**enter manual Choke***

1) Pull choke 50% turn key, back out of drive set choke zero % ...DONE effort 1%

2) In the middle of Jerkwater USA Low speed carb circuit becomes mostly blocked...Go oh **** as engine leans and dies...pull choke 75% start engine use choke to maintain mix at idle set zero for high speed repeat for low speed...escape from Jerkwater avoid jackers

Maybe it was my carb maybe a new auto choke would have fixed the problem I dont care I'll never go back to auto choke. I dont have to fight with the manual at all its the bees knees.
