What type of heads do you have? What type of rocker studs do you have (press in or thread)? What type of lifters do you have? Do your rocker stud nuts have set screws?

It sounds like you have standard rocker arm nuts and they're worn out. Once they loosen up they will not stay where you set them. You can get a set at most auto parts stores.

or you can also use medium stregth loctite on the nut after you tighten it where the threads are.

Medium strength can be broken with regular hand tools. DO NOT USE HIGH STRENGTH!

Is it the stock cam? It sounds like it wasn't the rocker loosening, but the studs pulling out. You can convert them to screw in studs by pulling the studs, tapping the holes and installing 7/16 screw in studs. You can tap them right on the engine if you are careful. I did on my 1966 a code engine in order to install a bigger cam.

Sounds like the shop that did the machine work is going to owe you some money back. Take lots of pictures!!!!!!!!! Take them into the shop and ask them what they are going to do for you!

Really sorry to hear that. Yeh, push-in studs will back out from time to time. Get the heads machined for threaded studs and you will not have to deal with that again. Again, sorry...
