Need pics of roll bars in car, 65-66 Fastbacks only
I've been looking at putting in a roll bar as a place to mount some four point harnesses for when I go to the autocrosses a few times a year.
I'm planning on putting in a set of Sparco R100 seats, and some Simpson four point harnesses, and have been trying to find pictures of a 65 or 66 fastback with a roll bar installed.
I have found only a few good shots on the web, and was wondering if anybody had any pictures they could post.
I mostly want some shots of where it gets welded/bolted to the floor and wheel wells, along with some shots of where you had to cut the fiberglass panels to slip around the bar traveling up, and maybe just some overall pics of how it fits.
I still want the rear seat, so I am looking at the kit that allows access to it. I'm not looking at the Shelby R-Model bar that requires removal of the seat.
Also, there are many manufacturers out there, any particular brand that seems to have better quality than others?
Thanks

I think you will need the R model or something similar with a crossbar down low to have something to mount the harness to. I think most of the plain roll bars have an attaching point up high for a shoulder harness (3 point style), but this will not work for a 4 or 5 point harness. I am not sure you can/should mount a harness to a bar that is removable, so you would need a permanent cross bar which would then prevent you from easily entering the rear seat.
This is for a S197, but the classic mustang bar works the same way.

agfulan,
If your just trying to strap yourself in for autocross, the cheap easy way would be to install a "Y" harness. The angle is not perfect, but with the right seats it is far superior to the stock lap belt set up. Here's how I did mine:
Here is where they come through the harness holes in my seats:
Here is where I mounted them:
Here is the mounting point. It is beefy, but you need to weld in some reinforcement. (this picture was borrowed from SilverBlueBP)
Here's the eye bolt kit:

If you are really set on a 4-point harness and don't want to go the whole roll bar route, this is what I upgraded to for track time. I didn't want to install a roll bar, so I got a removable harness bar fabbed up. I can drive to the track without it, mount it in 5 minutes (3 bolts per side) and remove it for the ride home.
I had some custom mounts welded behind the interior vent panels, right in front of the vents.
I bought a second set of vent panels and modified them (cut them) to accept the harness bar. The original set covers the mounts when I want the stock look.
