My 289 2v C4 '67 coupe vibrates!
About two months ago I bought a Blue '67 Coupe with a freshly rebuilt motor, transmission, and front end. Rack and Pinion + power steering, rear air shocks, new suspension, etc etc. Anyway, I took it out one evening and while accelerating out of a stoplight one of the motor mounts failed and my engine lept up to one side. I heard a clunk and some gears grind, and seconds later white smoke was coming out of my hood.
White smoke turned out to be from the upper coolant hose (which i ripped open). I had to replace the motor mount, driver's side exhaust manifold gasket, and flange gasket. A week later my lifters went out of adjustment...fixed that. A week later, my alternator failed (most likely as a result of being sprayed by vaporized antifreeze)...replaced that.
Since then, my car has displayed some other symptoms that I can't determine the cause of. The most important to me is the fact that as I drive on the highway my engine seems to vibrate? Around 55mph+ I get a lot of feedback in the steering wheel and accelerator pedals, and there is a relatively loud vibrating noise that comes from directly in front of me. The noise does not oscillate. Also get a bit of wobble at around 25-35mph as well.
I was thinking it might be one of these things, but am not really sure: suspension bushings, wheel bearings, brake drums, improperly seated motor/transmission (mounts), harmonic balancer, flexplate, or (please no) my transmission.
Any thoughts or questions would be appreciated!
