Default how many jet sizes in holley for 1.5 A/F leaner

Hi all,

anyone any suggestions?

holley 570 street avenger, which felt lean (never measured) comes with 54 primary jet.
i had an edelbrock and swapped back to holley now. before i mounted the Holley I changed to 62 primary (since the carb was dry).
Now I am running cruise at 12:1 - 12.5:1. i want to richen it up by about 1.5 to 13.5:1 - 14:1 (rather 14:1)
any suggestions on which primary to use? i can try and measure, but I was hoping someone can save me time here :-)
Otherwise I'll go with the middle being a 58 primary and measure again

You actually want to lean it out in order to lower the amount of fuel for a given amount of air entering the carb (12:1 going to 13.5:1). I always adjust Holleys two steps at a time. I know it takes longer to change the jets given all the disassembly required, but spending a day will get you a great tune. All that said, you went 8 steps richer, so follow your own thinking and go with 58 as your new base and tune in two step increments from there. I think you may find that is very close.

aye. will do that. driving over to buddy where we keep all jets and stuff.
good thing is with 8 steps richer being 'only' 1.5AF too rich, it must have been to lean before that. so ya. i guess I'll try 58 and go from there

Three jets on my car is 1.5AFR. It is different for every engine, intake, carb, and air bleed combination. Sounds like you are on the right track.

Yeah, there's no hard and fast rule. Every carb and engine are different, and will respond differently to changes.

I now cruise at around 14.7:1 with the 58s. anywhere between 14.3 and 15.3. slightly uphill bang on 14.7:1 and steady. what you guys think? slap a 59 on it (i don't have one), or should that be good for carbed cruising. feels fine anyway.

on light to medium accelleration I am at my target of 13.5:1 but on WOT it goes direction low 12 again. so next thing on list is to swap the 65 secondary jet with the 62. and try again. but unfortunately this won't happen for another two weeks.
tomorrow is my birthday means i'm pissed til sunday and monday flying out to germany. Saturday back and straight to Kilbeggan (the biggest american car show in the country).

Anyway I hope it's not to lean for cruise (don't think so). i'll be looking forward to see what gas mileage that does now on the trip up :-)

good news is way more power since i fiddled with ignition and carb. and on WOT there's even more in it. that'll make me happy then
