I was told if I go with a TKO 500 I just have to replace the slip yoke b/c the out put shaft is different, you just have to replace the slip yoke b/c the out put shaft is different, but everything else will work the same. True?

If it is true get one of these at the same time if you are still running the original DS

Im fixing to get one. All their shafts are high speed balance and run true even above 7,000 rpm....

Hm, I thought the T5z was the one with the short 1st gear, but it's not. The T5z has a 2.95 1st, which makes the 3.25 swap make even less sense. Apparently the 2.95 1st is stronger, but that doesn't make anything else stronger.
Personally, I'd use a TKO. You won't break it. You'll have to get creative with the fit, however. JMD used a drop crossmember to cram one under his '66, but doing so can potentially cause vibration issues as it tends to screw up the combined driveline angle. JMD has no issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't. Just something to keep in mind.

Okay that is a logical assumption....Do you plan to run it hard often? I still think the life span will be limited. Im not very familiar with the G-force kit or whatever Bruce is offering. But if you snapped a z spec main shaft I dont think there is much you can do to make one any stronger...I think you still run the risk of snapping the one Bruce is recommending... Did you tell him is snapped a Z-spec shaft??? You probably will have to ask Bruce what is different between a z-spec output shaft and the one he is offering...I think its none

Well, that makes slightly more sense, but I still wouldn't want to run a T5z behind a built 351W. I don't even want to run one behind my 331.
However, I'd recommend changing the rear gears no matter what you do. 3.25's are too tall for a 5sp. I'd recommend something like 3.73's.

TKO is just so much beefier, and you can flog it and not worry. T5's can hold up to high power engines, but mainly if they're road raced and you know how to shift them, street duty really puts a beating on transmissions though.
