im using a 351w stroked to 393 with a tremec tko 5 speed transmission in my 68' coupe.
good luck
The Tremec 5 speed is as POS. It won't shift from 2nd to 3rd at any RPM over 5K. If you read a lot of forums, you will see a lot of testimonials about it. Here is just one. Ford spent over 2K bucks on mine which is the factory tranny in my 03 Mach 1. It now shifts OK, but Ford had to replace most of the parts in it that were under warranty. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthrea...328655&page=13

Dont dick around with lame small blocks in a car like that... A big block would be my first choice ebcause of the ungodly amount of low end torque, but Id say for for a 350 chevy motor... you can build those so cheap because they are such popular motors. Blocks should be TOO hard to come by.

Lame small block fords have been whipping chebbie butts for so long, that the Camaro is no longer offered as an option in the chebby line. So, dont come onto a Mustang site and crow about a friggin Gm Product.

Well Glen, I would have to disagree with you on the chevys. Im a chevy/ford person. So dont try nd cut my head off for saying so, but a chevy 350 can have 450 HP without a supercharger or anything. They are also very cheap, and have all kinds of parts for them.

ouch... soaring do you have any suggestions for a 5-speed manual? i would go with a toploader but really want to have all 5 gears instead of 4.
thanks,
carl

edit:
after a bunch of reading is a "tko" different from the "tko 500/600" models. because what i was planning on was the tko 600.
thanks again.

Yep, the Doug Nash 5 speed tranny. They are known as Richmond transmissions today. http://www.richmondgear.com/01transmissions.html
If going automatic, the C6 can be beefed up and give you a little better times at the track.

No No No this is a Ford - it deserves a Ford engine. I am not disagreeing that a Chevy 350 is an easy and cheaper HP build. I hate going to car shows where every car on the lot has a 350/350 combo whether they are Fords Pontiacs etc.

Right on. When I was stationed in Japan several years ago, I happened on a 65 Mustang with a modern Nissan Skyline engine in it. I talked to the owner briefly, but the language barrier was just too much to get much information. But, that was the ugliest looking engine bay I have ever seen on a classic Mustang. However, that sucker could scream. Man, it was fast. But, I just think that is going a little too far with modding a vintage Mustang. To me, and this is just my opinion, putting a 350 chebbie engine in a classic Mustang is just pure and simple blasphemous. I don't care how easy or inexpensive they are to mod for HP. If you mod a 351 enough, it will spank any 350 GM out there. So, it is just beyond me why anybody would go to all the trouble of putting in a 350 and have to change everything in the drive train to make it work. Stoopid! The Slyline mod looked very much like this one.

It is a nice looking ride, but the wheels don't seem right IMO.

Once again. A chevy 350 can have massive amounts of power. What is the highest amount of power they have heard of a 351?
