Alright guys my poor 408 died a horrible death not to long ago and im looking at a 429 super cobra jet V-8 but id like to get some information on it first.

1. How much power can the stock rods pistons and crankshaft hold up to horsepower and torque wise?

2. Whats the maximum lift i can use without pressing a valve into a pistion using the stock heads?

3. Are there any dyno pull sheets on a 429 form this year?

any infomation would be greatly appreciated!!!

Still a lot of variables. I would say that 500 each would be within arms reach (some minor tweaks). Heres a short story. One thing to keep in mind is the stock versions are very heavy. Any time you can swap aluminum parts in it will help.

In there stock form, the 429 is going to be way torquey for a light car light the mustang. The stock cam and heads are really set for low end power. This is great for a truck or very heavy car, but a light car will just blow the tires up. This is why many people liked the 428 better than the 429 because they were set up with a wider torque curve. This is a bigger problem for the lighter 69 and 70 cars than the heavier bigger 71-73s. The 429/460 BBF can be made into very nice engine, but they were less than idle in their stock form by today's standards. When I have some time, I will pull the specs peak horsepower and torque specs on that engine.

wouldn't that motor have the D0VE heads? those are supposed to be the better stock heads to use.

cam + intake + carb + exhaust on a otherwise stock 429 = epic win for fairly cheap.

From what i was told they made 375hp 450foot pounds no clue if that is even right.If it was me i would get a 429 block 4 bolt mains p51 heads they are just like a scj head but out flow it.

The 429CJ was 370hp@5400 and 480ft*lbs@2800 and CR was 11.3:1. CJ heads were D0OZ-6049-H and were made in 70-71. The had 1.72/2.224 valves. The CJ cam was a C9AZ-6250-A. It was a hydraulic cam/lifter setup with 282/296 duration and .506 valve lift. The events on this cam were MUCH better for broader power band than the normal cam. The 429CJ had a much better cam than the regular 429 and 460 which peaked hp around 4500rpm. Like I said before, the cam is the important thing. If it is a true CJ or SCJ with the heads and cam to match, you should be good. If it has a regular 429/460 cam, it will be done making power way early.

the motor is a True Super cobra Jet. 4 bolt mains the works. Cam specs are 509/509 valve lift and 290 300 duration. Any idea how much cam i can run in it without shoving a valve into a piston? Id like to get the engine to make around 500 hp.

Hey there is a 71 429 SCJ 4spd drag pack car for sale near me. It is in need of a TOTAL restoration, needs all floors etc. the guy is asking $19,500.00 is he way off base or is this car rare (valuable) enough to go for this much? I cant get it off of my mind but i am smart enough the know the monetary and time commitment needed to bring it back from the dead.
