Question 67/68 Shelby trunk weatherstrip

I ordered and installed the 67 Mustang weatherstrip on the new 68 Shelby fiberglass trunk. It seems to fit great along the forward edge & sides however the rearward corners and back edge I needed to pull the weatherstrip back quite a bit for it to close and seal decently. Its almost too thick as the seal is right on the inner edge of the weatherstrip and body metal.

Its sure it's not an issue of 'just close / weight and let it work down'. I did this for 2 weeks. Worked fine for the sides but not the rearward edge and corners. I need to replace the weatherstrip due to a few rips and it being a bit short now and figured I'd ask what others use before I order the same thing

For those who have the 67/68 Shelby fiberglass trunk.. did you use a different weatherstrip?

Your problem is the weatherstrip is a bit too stiff. You need something more compliant. Is yours, a Carpenter piece? If not, that's surely what you need. This is a new repro decklid with the carpenter 'strip. Wish the photo angle was better, it fits just fine, I saw this car.

I just had the same basic problem with my '66 coupe. The weatherstrip must be thicker than original and it is very hard to close the trunk. It fit just fine though, I got it thru cjpony parts. It was big enough with some to spare that I actually cut some off. Hope that's helpful.

I had the same problem with my trunk. The body shop cut the weather strip down so that it was not as thick. It seems to work fine now.
