trutrac and 3.55 gears with a C4

Usually you can't have both. A lower gear like a 3.55 will give you better acceleration but higher rpms on the highway. I assume you have like a 2.79 or 3.00 in there now. The truetrac will help coming off the line but that is about it. So you should get better acceleration and worse gas milage.

the c4 is a 1:1 ratio in 3rd if your rear tire is 25" tall it will take 4000 rpm to keep up with Ca traffic at 80mph.
If you indeed have the 2.79 which is very likely at 80 mph you are turning 3000 rpm
have you considered at t5 swap so you get over drive? with t5 in 5th with 3.55s you'll spin 2500 rpm at 80

If you do alot of highway driving, you won't like 3.50 gears without having overdrive.
I have 3.50 gears and a T5 and it makes the perfect cruiser. It does great on the highway and also has great get up and go around town.
Like GunJam said, the rpm on the highway are down. My car turns around 2k at 70 mph.

i have a c4 with 3.80 gears
I only drive 4 miles on the freeway max either way but it is not fun, its very loud, uses lots of gas, etc etc
i usually stick to 65mph in the right lane and only speed up faster if i need to pass a car or truck

If you like your automatic you could do an AOD swap. It has a .67 top gear so you could pretty much have you cake and eat it too, so to speak. It would put you somewhere around 2300 rpm at 72mph which is very good all around. My daughter has a 96GT I put 3.73s in to help her gas mileage in town and it pick up about 4mpg over the stock gears.

Gun Jam, you don't have to drive 80 on the freeway:P Max speed limit on I5 is 70, and while you can safely go 80, you can also safely go 65-70:P I cruise around in my fb with 3.25 gears and 24" tires at 70 all the time pushing ~3300rpm. 3.55's and 25" tires wouldn't be much different. It'd be loud and would guzzle gas, but it would be doable.
