Default engine ID?

First want to say hi to everyone. I have been reading this forum for sometime now and have gotten tons of information that has been put into good use in putting my coupe together. I have a question on my engine; I have the cast of C5AE-6105-E which would tell me my 67 coupe has a 65 289 in it, but my firing order is the 302 HO/351W. I bought the car with the engine already installed and the seller got it in trade for a landscaping job and had no idea about the car just wanted his money, lol.
But my question is how is this possible? Is it based solely on the cam? Thanks for any input..

A 5.0/3351 Windsor type cam will go right into and early block. It just changes some of the cylinders from the compression stroke to the exhaust stroke by changing when the valves open and close. I know it seems weird but it works.

Thanks, thought I was going a little crazy. At first the seller told me it was a 302. So for the last 6 months I have been thinking I had 302 HO cause of the firing order. But after tons of digging into this forum, I crept under the car and peeked behind the starter to see that I really had a rebuilt 289 block. Which in the big picture works fine, but now I one day I will have to see what the internals are to see what was actually done during the rebuild. I love playing the guessing game.

90% of all aftermarket camshafts you can buy for a 289/302 will have the 351 firing order. it's not much witchcraft. the camshaft turns once when the crank turns twice. So on every cylinder you have TDC twice. you can decide with the lobes on the cam on which TDC the valves are open and closed. if manufacturer wants the other TDC, they just grind the lobe 180 degrees offset

maybe more clear when you check the firing orders
15426378
13726548

both have the following part in common
1--26--8
54 and 37 is just swapped

Your C5AE-6015-E engine block could be the original engine, the C5AE-6015-E was used as late as 1968. Check the date code. And yes, the firing order you have is a common item, first used in the 69 351W, and about ten years later in the 302.
