Homemade Center Console Finished - **pics**
Well, as with every year when i come home for winter break (college student) i try to give myself a project so i'm not bored out of my mind in this town. This break i decided to make a center console because i loathe driving without an armrest and cup holders, heh.
So a couple days and a lot of plywood, glue and nails later i took it to an upholstery shop here in town and let him do his magic. He quoted me 150$ for the job, which included wrapping all sides in 1/4" foam, black vinyl, 1" foam for arm rest, and he even cut out the holes for my stereo and cup holders as well as installing the hinges for the lid. he did a great job in my opinion, much better than i was expecting
Here is a few pics of it when i brought it home. its now in the car and fits great, but its too dark to get decent pics so ill throw those up tomorrow maybe. Its not perfect but im happy with it for my first attempt. (if you're wondering what the slit in the removable piece is...its for the auto shifter)
Lemme know what you think!

Hey that looks great Jon, the upholstery shop did a great job. Now get that pic of it in the car up...
Tad, what's wrong with MDF? The only downside I see is it's sort of expensive. I used MDF to make my custom trunk floor and sub box, worked great. It's strong enough for most purposes as far as I'm concerned
EDIT: woops reading back on this way later I realized you said he should've used MDF... I read shouldn't have. My mistake, disregard post

Damn... And I just ordered a new Humphugger the other day... I guess I probably paid about the same as you after materials, etc, but mine won't hold a regular size CD player... Pretty cool.
BTW, bet you never get any crap about being a SLO Mustang... My sister is an Alumnist... Have lots of friends around there.
