1 wire alternator
#21
Can you send pictures. The stock alternator has 3 wires that hook up to the back that stator and 2 others which go to the voltage regulator which should be on your driver side next to the radiator.
You mind as well upgrade to a 100amp alternator instead of going and getting another stock one. Tough stuff makes ones in the stock casing using the external regulator for less than 100 bucks.
You could just start a new topic

If you installed an alternator that is "right" for your year and model car, AND your car has NO REGULATOR, the Alternator will NOT work.
If there is indeed no regulator on your car then it is safe to assume that someone upgraded to an INTERNALLY REGULATED alternator.
If this is the case, you will either need to install a regulator and it's associated wires, OR an internally regulated alternator.
There is an issue with the wiring that does not make sense either way though, so if possible, it would help if you could post up a pic of your alternator, particularly the back of the unit where the wires hook up.

i just put a one wire 100 amp on my old jeep, it had a 30 amp generator, works great, voltage reads 14:87 volts, even at idle, electric fan, headlights and electric compressor can all run at idle and still gives out enough voltage. i do have a voltage gauge instead of a idiot light so that works great. the only thing i had to do is run a heavy wire directly from the alternator to the battery.

The regulator on a 68 isn't on the side by the solenoid. The solenoid is on the right fender by the battery. The regulator is on the left side of the radiator frame. If it's not there, the alternator you are replacing had an internal regulator and you need to be sure that the replacement has one too.

I hope you needed this, it was posted a few years ago on this very site when I was doing my conversion. I bunch of people came forth and put this up for me and every now and then I repost it for this reason. I hope that it helps.
