What problems can I expect if I install Auto Meter Phantom gauges in my stock 68 mustang?

where you gonna mount them, do you have a cut to fit cluster?
as well you need to get the right parts. can't use electrical speedo, since the originalk is driven manually (with cable) . i like the phantom look, but don't
they have only rpm up to 10000 (instead of 8) and speedo to 160 instead of 120?

further i'd say you might have trouble with the gas gauge showing the right amount of fuel ...

I bought a JME Gauge Cluster for my 65. It came with Phantoms. Their kit comes with clear instructions for splicing in a new plug into the stock harness that mates with their clean wiring on the cluster. I could not be happier. You can actually read the gauges at night and they look nice. As stated above, the 10000 rpm face is a bit overkill as is the speedo, but these are small sacrifices.

The fuel gauge they include is a Ford 10-73ohm so it works with the stock sender. They also send a sender for the oil and temp gauges.

You're going to have to cut up the bezel and backing plate to get the gauges to fit. If you don't want to cut up the backing plate, you can buy this gauge support instead:

If you buy the guage support you'll have new issues. The backing plate was also the ground for all the lights, so you'll have to come up with a new way to ground your turn signals and high beam. Also the three screws that attach the bezel to the dash went through the original backing plate. You'll need washers that will be seen when sitting in the car. The bottom two screws are going to entirely missing.

Warning: work on carpet - it really sux when you're test fitting your tach and the lens slips out and hits the floor and shatters.

I would love a jme set but couldn't afford it. You'll be fine. I believe they even sorted the fuel sender problem with correct resistor. That thing is made for your car

That is one of the projects I took on a few years ago. I will post some pictures and maybe it will help some. Patients and attention to detail and you will be more than happy with the results. Doing it yourself is way cheaper than the JME gauges too.
