73 Mach 1 No spark No Start
I have a 73 Mach 1 with a 351C, Q code. I cannot get it started after storing it this winter..... So I have an MSD 6AL electronic ignition, MSD distributor and Coil. I ran the test on the ignition and I did get the coil to spark so i dont think it is the coil or the ignition box. When I crank I dont get any spark. The distributor is turning the rotor. My thought is that the Starter Solenoid is not producing any voltage in the "I" connection but I am not sure if the MSD unit relies on that like the stock setup does when cranking. The starter does turn the motor over by the way.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas.
Also when I stored the car, not sure why I did this but I only disconnected the Negative battery cable. Can this harm something over the winter?
Thanks for any input.

You will need to look at the dist cap and rotor for a carbon track. The I terminal only gives a boost during the time the starter relay is engaged- i would be surprised if the MSD box actually cares.
Disconnection of only the neg terminal should not harm the car.

Have you checked to see that you have power to your ignition? Since the other requirement for starting is fuel, do you get a squirt from the accelerator pump when you look down the carb and quickly open the throttle? Did you put any fuel stabilizer in your gas at the end of last season?
Good Luck!

I do believe I put Stabil in last fall. It is squirting fuel when it should. I have checked spark at the plug and no spark. That is what is confusing me. The ignition system checks but something is not allowing it to spark when I crank the motor. The distributor is only one year old and does not have any carbon trails. I do have a security system so I am going to check that next maybe that is not allowing voltage to the ignition. Thanks.

Your fuel system appears to be OK. The security system may be an issue, What I would do next is check to make sure you have power to your coil or distributor. That will check all the sources of power that must work for your car to have a spark.
