HEI ignition

HEI ignition
Been seeing a lot of 302 and 351s with HEI ignition type distributors. Is this a good swap, I know speedway sells em, but I dont want to commit if it sucks. I know on a 302 you have to notch a 14 drop base air cleaner for clearance, but since Im going procharged with a bonnet, no prob there.

HEI's are cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, parts are available at virtually EVERY parts store nationwide, and IMO they work really, really good.
But they are big, my older son has one on his 351, I think it looks pretty good here, but on my younger son's 302 it looks ok but freaking big.
351
302
This is where a person can really tell the difference between the size of the SBF brothers.

they are cheap, work well but look ugly and you will have clearance issues with airfilter.
however there's plenty of other HEI options that have a stock sized distributor. who said HEI needs the coil in the cap of a distributor. a nice MSD or crane kit with box works wonders (at least in my case)
