A shop here in HI will charge me $225 for just setting up the 3rd member. are there any problems forseen with doing it that way?? Oh, and if you couldnt tell by the question, i got my gears and cirrie limited slip in the mail today!1!

I also broke my phone, which makes posting from it a little difficult.

That's exactly how I would do it. When I used to drag race I had two spare third members all set up to just drop in depending on what gear ratio I needed to run at a particular track. The only trick is to try not to knock the studs back into the housing when you pull it. They are splined like wheel studs and getting them back in place to slide the third member on them can be a pain in the ***. Oh, and be sure to replace the copper sealing washers under each one of the nuts that hold the third member in or gear oil will seep out from under them.

I think I'm going to buy one of the eBay 3rd members already set up. They're $800 but I suspect you'll have at least that much in it by the time you add up the gears, LSD and installation. You're probably getting a better diff though.

I'd like to keep my stockers (2.79 I think) in case I want to take an extended road trip.

As for sealing, I know the copper washers work, perhaps the RTV will too.

RTV will work you have to make sure the housing and third member are completely clean and free from grease. I prefer the gasket.

There are no other tolerances that need to be checked outside of the third member. Just need to be sure your axle bearings are good.

I forgot to mention I like to let the RTV set up overnight to a full day at least before putting fluid in... others may disagree... just my way.

Thats a good idea, I know it sets up pretty well in a couple of hours. It will be hard not to just jump in and take her for a test ride as soon as they are in.
