1973 Clutch and Flywheel
I have a 1973 mustang Convertible, 351C 2V (I think the engine may be a 1970) that came with a FMX auto That I have decided to change to a four speed. I have bought a 4 speed toploader, bell housing, flywheel, Clutch, Z bar.... you name it I have got it.
It came to the exciting time to bolt it all up and I have problems.... I bolted up the flywheel and clutch, when I went to bolt up the bell housing, it was to small to fit over the flywheel. Everything I read says it takes the 164 tooth flywheel and 11" clutch but that doesnt make sense why it is hitting the bell housing. I dont know what piece I have wrong.
The bell housing does fit on the engine if I take off the flywheel.
I have:
164 tooth flywheel (HAYES #12-735)
11 clutch
bell housing with casting #D20A-6394-AA
Toploader Tag #RUG BG2
KB 10194

Did you ever get your bellhousing situated? If you haven't I was wondering what it would take to pry that RUG BG2 away from you? The reason I ask is I just bought a 1973 Ranchero 500 with around 58k with a 351 Cobra Jet and originally a factory 4 speed... problem is, someone, at some point, swapped out the top loader for a C4... and it just so happens that RUG BG2 is the tranny it calls for!
