Default aftermarket Air-Cond unit question???

i bought my 1966 Fastback 4 yrs ago so i figure the Aftermarket air-cond unit is atleast 5 or 6 yrs old. it came in the car and i believe it is a classic unit for under dash. my question is when i take the complete system off is it seperated from my heater box or are they as one. it has seperate controls on the vents. here is a pic.

Such systems are entirely separate from the heater. You can even run both at the same time. I did that once when driving on cool day with heavy rain. Bad move. I got dense fog out of the AC.

He is correct. That system should be completely separate from the heater box. That one is not a dealer installed one though. The face plate is different. Why are you taking the system off?

Why are you taking it off, just to repair something?

the reason i'm taking system off is due to i have a brand new 331 Stroker i'm getting ready to put in and the car is just going to be a once or twice a week toy to drive. i only used the system 2 or 3 times in 2 years before. taking it off will give me tons more room in my engine compartment and for my new radiator. i am just going to sell the complete system probably on craigslist.

Even still, I would keep the AC.

My car is only driven 1 or 2 times a week and there are those days when its really hot and its just nice to have.
