Question Squealing Alternator Belt

I noticed that my alternator belt squealing when I rev up the motor but I don't rev it up much at all. I slowly step down and hear the belt. Just today out for a cruise I notice the belt squealing when I step on the gas to go. I purchased the car a month ago and it wasn't ran too often the last 10+ years. Could it be I need a new alternator and belt?

If that belt is 10+ years old throw it away.

The belt doesn't look that old but the alternator has rust on it.

Take the belt off and rotate the alternator pulley by hand. If it spins freely without noise, just replace the belt. If it makes noise, feels rough, or anything else but freely, replace the alternator and the belt. jlg

This is way too simple of an answer for the interwhebz.

Chance are massive amounts of rust has entered the waterpump, and is causing it to bind which is making the belt squeal. Said rust also must have filled the water jackets in the block too, so it's obvious the engine needs rebuilding.

Something needs to be replaced, preferably something expensive.

You're right - how 'bout the obvious. You know, I contemplated that answer first but after 10 years of sitting the belt probably isn't in too good of shape anyway.

Well took the alternator off and it doesn't make noise when I spin it and the belt is in need of replacing. I am going to replace them and see if that helps.
