Default Brake Stutter

i have a 67 289. when i would push the brake pedal down the car would stutter and if u held it long enough it would die. i took to the shop where the guy replaced the brake booster and cleaned the carb. the problem sorta went away. but now the pedal is very difficult to press and it takes alot for the brakes to engage to their pullest, u gotta push pretty hard. but still if u push all the way, the car stutter. it doesnt die though. any ideas?

My suggestion would be to take it back (on a tow truck). Most likely it is the rod length between the booster and master cylinder, but if the engine is still stuttering they haven't fixed your problem. Just masked it by limiting the stroke of the booster.

actually the car brakes as good as it used to. what im wondering is why is the pedal so stiff and why does it stutter when its complelty pressed. the rod length? would that explain the both things?

I agree with Scott, you need to get it back to the shop that replaced the booster. It doesn't sound like they fix'ed it. You may have a bad "new" booster or there is a leak in the hose to the booster.

You may also want to check the vacuum on the engine to make sure it is in the normal range. when you check it, you may want to do it with the hose to the booster connected and then check it after plugging the nipple on the manifold. If you are already running low on vacuum before applying the brakes, the added load from the booster is causing it to stutter.
