'95 302 in '70 should I upgrade the trans?

I'm putting a stock '95 302 into my stock '70 that had a 302 as well. My '70 is automatic and used to get 8-12 mpg. I would like to improve this. Will a newer trans give me better gas mileage? Any suggestions as to what trans to get?

Unless you trans is slipping I doubt a newer trans could get you better gas mileage but I am not sure. Maybe if you don't have over drive.

AOD conversion will improve it.

AOD for sure--they make the kits to do it--easy peazy

Highway mpg should be better with an AOD if you don't drive too crazy.

Are you putting the EFI and computer from the '95 in too?
Not sure if the '95 had an AODE, but maybe you'll need an AODE trans anyway to make
the computer work properly? not sure.
