1969-70 Back Tail Panel
I am curious why I see some 69 and 70 Mustangs with black tail panels while others are painted to match the rest of the car. My tail panel is black, and I love the look but am curious if any came from the factory like this and why.

I think only 69 Boss302s were painted black. In 70, the Mach1s had an extra black plastic panel there to give a recessed tail light appearance, IIRC.
I had mine painted black as well as the headlight area like the Boss302s.

There is no honeycomb on the 69s...maybe the 70s had it but I do not think so. I see a lot of Mach 1 pictures with the tail panel painted the same color as the rest of the car. That is why I am asking. It does not look like it was a standard thing to all Mach 1s. In fact most do not have the black tail panel. I am wondering if that was just an aftermarket thing...???
Edit: I do recall seeing a bunch of Boss cars with this treatment. Maybe people liked it and swapped their Mach 1s to that style aftermarket?

The 69-70 BOSS 302 was blacked out with semi-gloss black.
The 1970 mach1 had a black plastic honeycomb panel.
The 1970 Grandé had a textured semi-gloss black panel.
The 1971-3 mach1 had a black plastic honeycomb panel.
The 1971 BOSS 351 was painted semi-gloss black.
The 1971-3 Grandé and exterior decor cars had a semi-gloss black steel leather-grain panel.
