Default What happens when you drive the new camaro

Ok, So I was in the US for a few days and had to get a hire car and ended up with a Camaro my mustang repaid me by dropping a significant amount of transmission oil on the floor and mustang unlimited did not have the parts I wanted in stock......

Hopefully I will be able to see were the leak is 2mrrw after work and fix it, rest assured any questions I will hassle you guys.

Gun jam,

The car was a 3.6L? V6 with 6 speed tiptronic gearbox. Visbility was really poor like driving in a post box, gear box was horrid (only Mercedes B Class auto is worse that I have driven), no really go, in 6th doing 65mph no acceleration, on small hills on interstate you had to change down. Steering feel and suspension feel horrible (mind you I am use to the stiffer european set up cars). Overall not a driving experience doesn't connect with you like a golf/sirrocco GTI, civic type R.

Not sure how stock your mustang is but it must drive better than a bone stock 65 (assuming new parts but stock) right?

its suppose to produce 300 hp but then again it weighs 4000 pounds so yeah i would imagine a 6th gear pull would suck.

300hp in a V6, so torque isn't necessarily going to be up to par for a 4,000lb+ car at lower rpm. And I've heard the visibility and feel of being in the car is extremely poor and cramped. They even knew about it during testing, and did nothing about it.

Yes, the weight of the new Camaro and Challenger really work against them as far as driving fun goes. It makes a car that SHOULD be a good handling car, handle more like a stiff sprung old Cadillac. All that weight just does not want to change directions.

I have an 06 Mustang GT, five speed. It is too heavy, but is about 10% lighter than the cars mentioned above. By stiffening the rear sway bar, I made it handle much better. It's no Corvette mind you, but it handles better than the heavy Camaro and Challengers that I drove.

With my late Mustang, however, I do have the same visibility complaint as Paddy does about the Camaro.

My $0.02,

Gun,

I would take my 65 for overal driving experience anyday the flaws in the steering (suspension is pretty well moded) just add to the driving experience. My daily driver, 2.0L N/A Subaru legacy, is a better car you get feedback from the steering engine etc. in the camaro you don't mind you in it's defense I do find that is true for most american cars I drive. Intresting to hear MBdiagman comments about the 2005 stang and yeah that mass is huge.

Cool

thanks for the real world feed back. I was always curious about what someone with a classic mustang would think about the new camaro.

i have all three (camaro, challenger and mustang for work vehicles) and the visibilty is really bad in the camaro all around. and even the challenger is the same way. the front windhshield is a little easier to see out of than the camaro.
of all three. i prefer the feel of the mustang. however looks wise i still like the challenger and mustang best.
i have pics of them side by side if i remember ill post them when i get home.
